For my 20th birthday, I decided to treat myself to an industrial piercing. I had wanted to get one for the longest time but was always kind of chicken to. Regardless of having several tattoos and been through numerous ear piercing, I had never had a piercing done with a needle. I went to a local tattoo parlor and anxiously waited my turn with a friend, who I’m pretty sure was more excited than I was at this point. By the time Branden, the tattoo artist, came to take me back, I was a shaking mess. He sat me down and talked me through the process. He marked the spots on my ear and had me lie down once I looked to see if the spots were okay.

After a few deep breaths, he pierced the first hole, which wasn’t nearly as bad as I had anticipated. After putting the first part of the barbell in, he had me take a few more deep breaths and pierced the second hole. By the time he was finished, I was amazed at how painless it was compared to ear lobe piercings and the guns used with them. never again will I allow my ear to be shot with one of those guns; I’ve learned the needle is the much better way to go!
