I’ve always had a fascination with piercings, what younger person hasn’t? The pretty jewelry, the cute studs, the idea that for a little bit of pain you can be adorned with beautiful jewelry for the rest of your life if you choose. And if you decide to take it out, you simply have a small scar left.
I decided that I wanted my tongue pierced when I was 14. And of course, my parents wouldn’t let me.
I talked constantly to my friends about it, especially my best friend, Emily.
We agreed that on our eighteenth birthday that was what we were going to do.
Only she didn’t want anything pierced, she wanted a tattoo, a tinker bell tattoo.
That was ok though, as long as we were doing it together 🙂
Four long years I waited. I thought about it doing it myself at times. I thought about having a friend do it. But I never went through with it.
And finally I turned 18. Emily dutifully waited on me (her birthday is exactly one month and 9 days before mine) and we loaded up and drove to our preferred piercing and tattoo parlor.
Apparently I have a short tongue because the guy doing it kept getting mad that I wasn’t sticking it out far enough. But once he got the clamps on it was almos over.
In went the needle and then in went my very first, brand new, tongue stud.
It hurt. More than I expected. But it was worth it.
While we waited on Emily to get her tattoo we drove to the store down the road and got some ice for me to suck on. It was awkward at first, since my tongue was already swelling.
It’s been ten years and I’ve still got that darned little thing. I love it. Except for the time I swallowed one of the balls eating popcorn, I haven’t went a day without it. 😀

I have this friend, Catherine (shown in the photo on the right), and we’ve been friends since high school. Even though friendships drift throughout your lifetime, ours has miraculously stuck! I am thankful for our friendship and the hardships we endure together.
Five years ago, when I was in grade eleven, I got my second hole pierced in both ears at the cosmetician center at St Francis- and there was Cat, holding my hand the hole time. And just last weekend there she was again, squeezing my knuckles- for her own pain and mine.
We made the courageous decision to pierce our own ears!! I gave her a helix and it went through beautifully- and she gave me a conch which was supposed to be a helix but i moved…so yeah! – after a lot of freaking out, we sucked it up, froze our ears with a piece of ice and pulled the trigger. The experience was great! our bond is greater because we went through the pain together. I’m now up to 8 piercings and don’t regret any of them!!

The first time I got a piercing was when I was 18 years old. I got my nose pierced. I had to wait till I was 18 because of my parents. It’s was my 18th birthday and I went to get my nose pierced with my sister, her boyfriend and my best friend. I thought it was going to hurt but I didn’t feel a thing. I was very surprised. The only way it hurt was when I walked outside in the old weather. That’s is the only time I could feel it.

You really had to want pierced ears back in the day because of the method used then for ear piercing. I was 12 years old in 1966 as I sat in our living room holding that ice cube to my earlobe. My mother sterilized a sewing needle threaded with white cotton thread and waited for the ice to numb my ear, I took a deep breath as she pushed that needle through my ear and into a piece of cork on the backside of my lobe. I remember the pain and the sound of “gristle” as my earlobe fought hard against the invading sewing needle. Once through, mother knotted the thread and doused it with alcohol. Then SHE DID THE OTHER EAR. As the healing process, I had to pull the thread back and forth back and forth everyday for a month to keep the hole open as it healed, and each day applying alcohol. Here’s a pic of my pierced ear 48 years later. Back in the day, you REALLY had to want it, to have pierced ears. 🙂

My piercing addiction started when I was 19 and I was out of my parents house and they could no longer tell me no tattoos and no piercings. I got my second hole pierced and my first tattoo at 19. When I turned 21 for my birthday I got my nipples pierced, that was the most memorable of all my piercings, pain doesn’t bother me much but OUCH piercing your nipples hurt but its worth it in the end. Since then I have gotten 13 more tattoos and 8 more piercings and I don’t think I am anywhere near done yet.

I don’t have anything pierced other than my ears. When I first was introduced to dermals was about 3 years ago when my younger brothers girlfriend got dermals in her tattoo. It looked like diamonds just floating on her skin. I loved the look. I wanted to do something different something dainty. I dont have any tattoos either so going in to this whole piercing myself thing was quite scary. I decided to get the dermal directly in the middle of my neck. I held off on the process for about 6 months after watching a few videos on how a dermal piercing is done. Time helped me grow the will to actually get pierced. I went to the shop by myself just in case I punked out I would be by myself. I got to the piercers chair and he had this tool that looked like a whole punch. He told me to take a deep breath and he literally punched a hole in my neck. It was pretty painful and quite uncomfortable. After a while I got use to it, I love my piercing!

My name is Chris, I am into modifications and all that good stuff and I was looking for a unique piercing. My long time piercer at the tattoo shop that I have been going to for years suggested that I get a chin piercing at first I thought it was just the traditional labret until he explained it. It is actually a piercing directly through my chin. As he told me it may not last long but hey that is what its all about you keep some ya lose some. I was all for it. After he pierced me I had these huge barbells coming out of my chin which I could not wait to change. I get weird looks all the time and questions like did it hurt? Why did I pierce there LOL every question you could think of but thats what it is all about. I can’t wait to do some more odd mods!
I am currently 32 years old and I have always wanted to get my industrial pierced. For so long it was my parents that wouldn’t allow it, and when I came of age to actually get the piercing on my own I couldn’t do it. I was too scared. So I waited until I was in my 30’s to think about piercings again. At first I thought, I’m to old to get new body piercings, but after some convincing from a few friends it really doesn’t matter what age you get pierced. So after two years of convincing myself I finally got my industrial pierced. I’m not sure if its age but it wasn’t as bad as the review I read about online. I mean of course it hurt but it was bearable. I love my new piercing and there will be more to follow.
