Yet again I found myself getting a piercing I never dreamed I would get. Almost always when I had seen a septum piercing it was on someone with large jewelry and frankly didn’t look appealing to me at all. Over time I started seeing discreet septum piercings with retainers and other small jewelry. Suddenly septum piercings didn’t look so bad.
My story begins when I was out of town for a few weeks on business. I found myself walking around L.A. with a few hours to spare. There were many things I could have done but I decided to walk around and look at stores. I noticed several piercing places and figured it would be interesting to see what the atmosphere was like kin them. The first couple were terrible, can’t really explain why, they just felt wrong. The third seemed okay, but I figured I had better go check it out online.
Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of any of the shops, this was long ago, but my instincts were right, 2 got terrible reviews, the third was quite good.
So what to get? I was away on business so it had to be discreet. Out of nowhere I decided to try a septum piercing as long as they could do it with a retainer.
I took a walk to the shop and they said that piercing with a retainer wouldn’t be a problem but could I come back the next day as they were closing soon. Darn. I figured I’d probably back out and put it out of my mind. The next day at work I didn’t even think about it but on the way home I walked past the shop and while it was still relatively close to closing time I thought I would go in and see if they could do it.
A different piercer was in and she said she’d be happy to take a look for me. I asked the price and nearly choked, I don’t go to hack places, but I recall feeling the price was a bit extortionate. Still, I had a good feeling about her and foreign currency I didn’t want to exchange so I said go for it.
We decided on a 14 gauge retainer which would be easy to hide. I hopped into the dentist chair, my first time being in a chair for a piercing and she took a look at my septum. She exclaimed that it is crooked which was no surprise to me and that she would need to take some time marking it so that it appeared straight. Her attention to detail was good, although I felt like I would sneeze as she was marking different positions trying to decide what would work best. Finally she has found a placement that worked for her and it was time to go.
The clamping as usual was a bit of an annoyance but not a big deal, probably a bit more uncomfortable than other areas but nothing to be concerned about. Next up came the needle. 1, 2, 3 done! It felt sharp! Yes, I know needles are sharp but this actually felt sharp and different to other piercings. It was over in moments and then it was time to make the retainer the right size so that I could flip it up and down, but without any risk of it coming down without me making an effort to flip it down. I didn’t want to risk it slipping down when sneezing, blowing my nose, etc.
I took a look to be courteous, I didn’t really care how it looked as it was never going to be worn down anyway. I paid then tipped and was on my way.
My nose was extremely sensitive for several days, bumping then end of my nose when taking shirts off or getting dried after a shower was most unpleasant. Healing was easy and I kept the piercing in for a few months then took it out.
Several months later I decided it was fun to have and wanted to get it done again. I went to a local shop in Tempe and said I wanted it done. To my surprise the hole was still there, no need to pierce, just taper and put the jewelry back in. That was several years ago, sometimes I keep it in, sometimes I take it out. Nobody knows I have a pierced septum, it is nice having something nobody knows about.
I generally get a piercing for the experience and the sensation and I can say this didn’t disappoint. I don’t like how it looks if I flip it down but I knew that would be the case but I’m still happy that I have it.

When i was 16 years old I was allowed to get my first body piercing (besides my ears!) Since I live in Iowa my parents had to sign a consent for AND have it notarized…After begging them for months they finally gave in! My boyfriend took me to the shop and I was so nervous that I jumped when he put the alcohol on! (haha) I laid on the table and at that particular shop, all of them were out in the open, so everyone getting tatoos got free entertainment. My belly piercing went well and a bunch a bikers cheered me on the whole time! great day!! (now if I could only be 16 again…well, maybe 21! )

A little bit about me. I have 12 tattoos and counting. I also have the following piercings: Industrial Barbell, nose, navel, eyebrow ring, tragus and I have 2 cartilage in one ear, along with four regular piercings on both of my ears.
For the past 10 years I have gone to the same Tattoo Parlor to get all my piercings and tattoos done. The shop is called Suburban 171 and it’s in Romeoville, IL (little plug for my shop!)
Anyway, the same two guys have always done my work. They’re awesome at what they do and I figure if you find someone you like in the industry, stick with them, they won’t do you wrong.
So I go in there to get my eyebrow pierced. Normally I have this guy named Perv do it. Don’t ask me about his name, I have no idea! Problem was Perv was out of town at a convention. So the girl behind the counter says they have a new guy who does piercings as well and would I like him to do mine. Well I didn’t want to wait 10 days for Perv to get back in town. I’m all for instant gratification. So I tell her sure. She goes into the back and comes back out with this guy following her.
He was, at most, 5′ 3″. He was super skinny, had a neon green Mohawk and tons of piercings, but no tattoos that I could see.
He introduces himself to me as Brian and has me follow him back to a room. He asks me which side I want done, then tells me to lay on the table. He’s talking to me while he sterilizes everything, but I’m not really listening. I’m hoping this will be quick because I had to pick my daughter up from work. However, when he was talking, I heard him say the word “new”, I didn’t give it much thought.
Now everything is done ad he’s ready to pierce. So he puts a little dot on my eyebrow to show me where it will go and gives me a mirror to check it out. I say it’s fine. Then I feel him wiping it off. He says, “Sorry, it wasn’t symmetrical to your nose.” I’m laying there thinking, WTF? The he takes a ruler and angles it from the tip of my nose to the far end of my eyebrow. He marks it again and shows me again. He says, “That’s way better, don’t you think?” I said yes, but I was actually thinking it looked the same as the first time he showed me.
Ok, ready to go. He leans over me and I can feel his body shaking against mine. Then he stretches further over me and jams his elbow right into my boob! I’m laying there thinking how much more my boob hurt than the piercing. Finally he gets the piercing done, but he can’t screw the ball into the end of the ring! He keeps telling me he’s sorry and that he’s only done two other eyebrows and that he always has trouble screwing it together. Finally, after what felt like 20 minutes, he got it on. Such a relief when he stood up and got his elbow out of my boob!
So I was there for about 20 minutes. I’d honestly have to say the actual piercing took 5 minutes and him fumbling around trying to get the ball on took 15 minutes. It was freaking crazy.
As I was walking to my car, I thought, note to self. Next time, no matter how long, WAIT FOR PERV!!
I have always wanted my lip pierced but was always too scared to do it especially because I already had one facial piercing, that being my eyebrow and thought it would look a little excessive. Then one day, I finally said forget being a little over excessive, if I like it, I’ll get it and gathered up the courage to go to the piercing shop. I wasn’t nervous when I was sitting in the chair because I’ve grown numb to the piercing pain and so I waited patiently to get it done. The piercer made a little mark and a second later, the needle was through my lip. I didn’t feel any pain and he quickly screwed the lip ring in. I was happy with the results minus the anticipated swelling and feel like my eyebrow ring and lip ring contrast each other but in a positive way!

When I was 18- after having two lip piercings, my eyebrow pierced, and multiple ear piercings- I decided a nose piercing was next. I was out with my Friend, Audrey, and decided to just stop into the local tattoo shop and get it done. I laid down on the table, not even nervous as I had so many other piercings AND tattoos already. The needle went in and my eyes just started gushing tears. It hurt SO bad. Blood streaming down the side of my face. I felt like such a baby. I honestly believe they did it wrong. Later on, I find out a newbie at the shop did it. Like, what the hell?? “let’s have the new kid try piercings noses!”??? Needless to say, I am 26 now and still have my nose pierced. I have dropped down to only one lip piercing. which is a story in itself. Each piercing/tattoo I have has a story attached to it and I think that’s awesome.Memories of being a teenager and at any time I could just stop and get something pierced or tattooed. I am a mom now and things just aren’t that simple. I’m waiting for the say my daughter comes up to me and wants her nose pierced.. I’ll say sure and hold her hand along the way, and definitely make sure the person doing it, has experience! That’s my story and I know I am not at the 350 word mark yet. But I REALLY need a new lip ring and nose ring or something!!!

I’m definitely not your average, grunged out, pierced chick but I do have 14 piercings. My last piercing was my eyebrow and I had been waiting for almost two years to get up the nerve to do it. When I finally did I asked my ex boyfriend at the time to go with me and convinced him to get a piercing done too. We weren’t suppose to be hanging out so I snuck off to the tattoo shop to meet him. When we got there we were pretty freaked out looking at all the body jewelry knowing there was no backing out. Now I had had 13 piercings prior to this but I was really nervous about this one with it being so close to my eye and all. Needless to say I walked into the piercing room like everything was fine. The guy who was suppose to pierce us was so quiet and serious I was starting to get anxious. He had so many piercings it was hard to make out the features of his face. He simply told me to lay down so I did. I don’t remember much of the pain but I do remember looking up at my ex and seeing him cringe which sufficiently scared me enough to ask the guy if he was done yet. I sat up and looked in the smudged mirror at my new bling and I was definitely excited. That night I stayed with my ex. Once we got to the hotel my head started aching from the new piercing. The next morning I woke up with the fattest, most purple black eye. I knew I would have to go to work the next day so I immediately went into panic mode, icing and cleaning it every hour. The next morning my eye looked like it had been doused in purple eye shadow and it was totally obvious I was bruised. All this time I never considered what other people’s impressions would be of me when I walked into work. When I finally did give up trying to cover the mess I went to work, which at the time was at a daycare and before I even got all the way inside I was bombarded from all angles with girls gasping about “did he do this to you??” I didn’t understand what they were talking about at first and then it finally hit me. They thought I had been hit, like punched in the face. I was so humiliated. And to make matters worse I didn’t account for the fact that the side I wear my bang to covers the eyebrow ring anyway. Next piercing is NOT going on my face 🙂

It took me three years to get my belly button pierced but it happened. I had wanted to get my belly button pierced since I was 14. I told my mom and she said I had me wait till I was 16. Then on my 16th birthday nothing was said about me getting my belly button pierced so I kind of left it alone for about a month. then I started asking again and she kept putting it off. I think this could have been because my dad didn’t want me to get it done. Then when he was gone for a while I started asking again, and she again said I could get it done. I went to California with my best friend and she got hers done while I was gone. I got really upset with her, because we were going to get it done together.
I kept bothering her about it till I got a date. So I ordered my own titanium belly button ring from bodyjewelry.com and told her I was ready to go. And again it was put off. then When she finally took me to get it done I got nervous, and I think that was because I had heard from many different people that it hurts. so I was expecting some painful long process. Then when I got to the tattoo shop and sat in that curved piercing chair, I was told to take a breathe and let it out slowly. By time the air was all out of my lungs I had a belly button piercing. I couldn’t believe that something that so many other people I had talked to said they were in tears by time the piercer followed the ring after the needle. Now all I can think is man those girls are babies.
so if you are thinking about getting your belly button done then just remember that it doesn’t hurt an take time to make sure that that is what you truly want. Also make sure you are doing it for you and not to fit in with the crowd.

When I wanted to get my industrial piercing all I could think of was how cool it looked, so I went to a reputable place that has a registered nurse on duty and got it pierced. I’ll admit I went in thinking it may hurt a bit (you’re shoving metal through skin it’s going to hurt) but I was un-prepared for how much. It was the most painful piercing I have and I have a bunch, so after it was pierced I kept looking at it thinking how cool I looked until the next day.
The next day my ear had swollen so much I looked like I had a fake ear or some kind of prank ear, and of course it throbbed like crazy and was just very painful it was even painful for air to hit it. And no matter how well or often I cleaned it, it stayed that way for about days. I was worried that it was mega infected and someday I would wake up with an ear laying on my bed. After the initial “swollen” period it started to look like I had an honest to goodness ear (complete with a kick butt industrial!)
Then I noticed a sore lump on the inner part of the piercing hole, I found out from my piercer that I had a keloid which develops from the piercing being hit too often and she gave me some ideas on how to reduce the size and hopefully eventually I’ll just have a kick butt industrial piercing that looks normal.
I’ll never regret my choice to get my industrial even through all the pain and un-fun that it was I still love the look of it and enjoy people’s reactions to seeing it.

I had my belly pierced twice the normal way. It fell out both times. I did a lot of research on weather or not I should get my belly button pierced in the same spot again or not. I looked online at a few different websites and they mainly said that skin will remember it being rejected. I was like I guess I can’t get my belly re-pierced again in the same spot. I was really sad that I couldn’t get my belly pierced again. I loved having my belly pierced. I decided to look at see if there was any other common spot to get my belly pierced. I found that you can get you lower naval pierced as well and it is pretty common. I remembered that one of my friends had it done but I never got a chance to see what it looked like. I looked at pictures online. I hemmed about if it was something for me to get done. I finally made up my mind that I was going to get it pierced. I called around to a few different places that did piercing. I have allergies to surgical steal so I had to have titanium body jewelry in my piercings. This cased some problems as not may places offer it. I finally found a place that I could get it done at. When I got it done the lady took her time placing the piercing in just the right spot for me. I have been to other piercing places and they jut kind of hurried you along. I was very happy with the work this piercer had done. I was freaking out that it would fall out just like the other belly piercings that I had gotten. I am going on a year and the ring still has not fallen out. My only problem with the piercing is that they pierced me with a ½” barbell and they are hard to find. If that is the only problem that I have I can live with it. I love having my lower naval pierced as it is different that what most people have and I just love the way it looks!
