It was three days before my fifteenth birthday and it was one of my last days in Florida. My mom had agreed to let my get my belly button pierced for my fifteenth birthday, but when it came to needles, I was a baby. To make sure I wouldn’t wuss out, I wanted to buy a cute belly button ring beforehand. We stopped at this tattoo place and my sister started asking around if they would pierce me.
“Sure, she needs this notary signed though before we can do it.” They handed her the notary and we got it signed by Florida tax people. This is when the fear started kicking in. The guy with purple dreads took me in the back and cleaned and pierced me. It was the weirdest feeling ever but the pain and sickness from the needle didn’t kick in until they were explaining how to clean it. I blacked out for a few seconds and found myself on their couch.
But the sickness passed and I am very happy with my decision to get my belly button pierced.

I started getting piercings right after I turned 18. I come from a very conservative family, so the majority of my first piercings were all body piercings — nipple, belly button, etc — easy to hide from my parents. As time went on, I became bolder with my body modification. I got my septum pierced when I was 18. I gauged it up from the standard 14gauge to a 10gauge, which is where it is now. It was my favorite piercing for a very long time.
When I turned 21, however, I got my Medusa pierced. For those of you who do not know, Medusa piercings are small piercings that consist of a stud in the upper lip right where it dips, beneath your septum. It became my favorite piercing immediately. I’ve always worked in restaurants, and in the restaurant world septum and other facial piercings are not acceptable. So I take out my vertical lip ring and septum ring for my job, but I leave in my Medusa. It’s overall socially acceptable, it’s cute, it brings a feminine touch to my personality that wasn’t there before with many of my piercings. And, honestly, it’s not that common of a piercing — I frequently get comments of “I’ve never seen that before.” It’s a great conversation starter and the perfect accessory to my days. Wouldn’t take it out for anything. I’m comfortable with my face.

My friends didn’t think I could hold a piercing they actually thought I couldn’t only do my ears. They have been daring me and telling me I was a scary cat and that I couldn’t take the real piercing of needles and so on. Well to bad for them. I went one day and to show them, when I came back I had my tongue pierced, my eye brow and I got a tattoo. They were so surprised at me. I told them that big momma could do the same just like them. I was happy with my piercing and they were happy as well. That they even threw me a party of how brave I was and how their daring came to affect for me to get the piercing, well it came to me having a belly bottom piercing and a lip piercing. And two more tattoos. I love all my piercing and my tattoos just be happy with what you do cause I am extremely happy with my piercing.

So the night was young, the day was done, my hair was newly dyed blonde, and was itching for a piercing. I called up my good friend, nicknamed piercing buddy Wendy, and off we went downtown to get the itch to go away. We had gone to the same piercing place for a number of years and after a phone call to our favorite piercer James, we were on our way. As I approached the studio, I my breathing was quickly becoming faster and I was getting so excited. We walk into the studio and filled out the paperwork. Of course I was over the age so it was merely a matter of a signature and a matter of payment. I had decided on an industrial piercing through my left ear, something that had intrigued me since I first saw it. My mother aptly referred to this piercing as a paper clip piercing. I didn’t care- I wanted it.
Not that my parents were for me doing anything to my body in terms of piercings. My mother and father are both very conservative people and the thought of something so out of the norm was so foreign and strange to them. I was about to prove them wrong. After a short wait in the lobby, James came out and gave me and Wendy a big hug. “What are you in for today?” he asked with a huge smile on his face. “An industrial,” I stated. His eyes lit up and off I went into the back to his office where he prepped the equipment as well as my ear. Wendy came into the room as well. He marked the spots where he would be putting the holes before the jewelry went in. My heart quickly jumped a beat. It was actually happening! After a moment or two was the moment of truth. “Are you ready?” he asked. “Of course,” I said with a smile. Thank goodness I had closed my mouth afterwards. I am not sure what happened but as soon as he put the needle to my ear and pierced through the delicate skin, a geyser of blood started blowing and even got the back wall! James was covered! As the professional he was, he kept his cool while I freaked out at the liters of blood gushing from my ear. It was an interesting experience for sure.

I was 20 when I went to go get my tongue pierced with my boyfriend, which by the way had already ear piercing and a bunch of tattoos. He was dying to get a tongue pierced but wanted me to go do it with him so I decided to do it. He was comforting me and being very cute and saying everything was going to be ok not to be scared that its just a needle like the ones used in tattoos.
So he sat down and he was ready to do it when out of no where started trembling and the guy started pressing on his tongue with just the clamp, he was trembling that even tears came out of his eyes, boom it got pierced. He got up hardly being able to walk. Then came my turn, I thought I was going to faint by seeing him, I sat the man clamped my tongue, pierced my tongue, I got up and it was over, nothing out of the world when I come to see my boyfriend he was sitting down nauseous and sweating. As for me, jumping of joy for having another piercing that I even ate Mcdonalds and he ate soup…lol. that was a great experience.

When I first got my belly button pierced, it was by my friend, not a professional piercer, but a piercer in the making. I was over my friends’ house, for a party, and I had been complaining about how I wanted it pierced, but was too lazy to go have it done, pay for it to be done, etc. So there we were, sitting on her bedroom floor, she had piercing needles, alcohol to clean the surface, everything a normal piercer would and should have, and I braced myself for the pain, I was expecting a really painful experience, but surprisingly, it didn’t hurt at all, didn’t bleed at all either- and I went on my merry way and actually went to a basketball game the same night, and totally even forgot it was pierced, since it didn’t hurt at all, didn’t even swell one bit.
My friend did a perfect job piercing it, knowing exactly where to put the needle through, and made sure that it was perfectly lined up on both sides. Whenever playing around with guys, they literally always compliment my belly button out of all my piercings, as weird as it sounds. I think it’s the most attractive piercing, besides industrial, and cartilage, and definitely hurts a lot less than most piercings. Now I love my belly button piercing and it always reminds me of my freshman year in high school! If I was to recommend a piercing, it’d definitely be belly button piercing. It’s the easiest to hide, and not only that, it’s cute as hell, and belly button rings are so cute too! At the moment I’m rocking the dangling Italian flag ring from bodyjewelry.com, and I love it to death. I wouldn’t change my belly button piercing for anything- and I definitely don’t regret getting it pierced, even if it wasn’t professionally done. It’s still perfectly pierced, I get tons of compliments on it, and it makes me look good so why would I regret it? I think you should go get it done right now to be honest, then go buy some cute rings from bodyjewelry.com!
